Manly Vale Car Park
Manly Vale was one of six commuter car parks delivering around 900 spaces across the Northern Beaches as part of the B-Line program. This project was part of the NSW Government’s commitment to provide more sustainable design solutions in line with the broader long-term plan for NSW. As a TfNSW initiative, SPG was enlisted to take on the project and deliver this goal. The car park features energy efficient systems such as roof solar powered generation to minimise the environmental footprint of the building as well as the innovative ‘Breathing Wall’ or vertical garden.
A two-year study by the Plants and Environmental Quality Research Group at the University of Technology, Sydney showed that a ‘Breathing Wall’ acts as a sound barrier and improves acoustics while cooling the surrounding air temperature, resulting in energy efficiency and reduced air-conditioning costs. This living, rotating, modular green wall system accelerates the removal of air pollutants by actively filtering and cleansing the air in this dense traffic area.
